From May 22-24, Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) will return to the cobbled streets of EC1 for a thrilling ninth edition set across seven exhibition spaces. With a brand new look, CDW 2018 celebrates the multi-strand nature of the creative community and promises a raft of product launches, new showrooms, interactive events, and of course, inspiring installations, including Lou Corio Randall’s interpretation of street furniture, Pipe Line, and several other jaw-dropping encounters on every corner.
Abstracta
As a pioneer in the field of acoustics, Abstracta has embraced the growing interest in sound absorption and efficient working environments. Unlike visual landscapes, sound doesn’t disappear when we close our eyes – it is a perpetual stream that affects us more than we know. Abstracta has used this as its starting point and developed products that create effective soundscapes for different office environments. At this year’s CDW, Abstracta will showcase its latest products, including the noise- dampening lamp Lily and sound- absorbing screen series dB.
Amtico
Global flooring manufacturer Amtico returns to Clerkenwell Design Week for the third time, showcasing its latest collections of luxury vinyl tiles and carpet, and debuting exclusive ‘pop-up’ design booths. Based in the Garden of St. James, the Amtico design team will host one- to-one sessions where designers and specifiers alike will have the opportunity to discuss, sketch and explore flooring schemes and design ideas with Amtico experts. Look for stand PB1.
Bisley
Ever since they launched the iconic MultiDrawer in 1958, Bisley have pioneered innovative storage in line with the challenges of the time. For this year’s CDW, Bisley are opening the doors to their new showroom in Dallington Street, where Bisley 2018 Matter of Fact will take place. Curated in collaboration with design magazine Dirty Furniture and The Furniture Makers’ Company, and featuring the works of Sam Jacob, Birgit Severin (pictured) and more, the exhibition has called for each contributor to choose an object that they think encapsulates 2018. On Tuesday 22, the Bisley showroom will also host the prestigious Design Guild Mark Awards.
Benchmark
A powerhouse of British Craft, furniture company Benchmark will grace the Crypt of St. James’ Church with several launches, including OVO in collaboration with Fosters + Partners, additions to the existing Gleda collection with new Gleda lounge tables (pictured) and dining chair designed by Space Copenhagen, as well as Benchmark’s own Victoria Workspace Collection. All share the meticulous craftsmanship and tactility often associated with Benchmark furniture.
Bert Frank
Founded in 2013 by designer Robbie Llewellyn and manufacturer Adam Yeats, Bert Frank has quickly established a presence on the international design scene with accolades such as the 2016 Elle Decoration British Design Award. The brand will showcase their new Colt lighting range (pictured) which incorporates opal diffusers encased by a sleek laser-cut brass grill and machined brass shade for a modern take on urban glamour. They will also be exhibiting the Lizak range which juxtaposes cylindrical glass shades with opalescent globes on linear brass arms.
Interface
As part of CDW 2018, global modular flooring manufacturer Interface will explore the correlation between +Positive spacesTM and better products. Visitors will experience Interface’s latest collections, including biophilic-inspired Human Connections®, and LVT ranges Boundary Metallics and Studio Set, as well as Conscient – a new carpet tile range that emits virtually zero VOCs. The showroom will also host a series of interactive workshops and panels with industry leaders exploring how LVT and carpet tile can be used together to create +Positive spacesTM.
