The 173rd issue of OnOffice turns its attention to Norway, a nation whose design legacy is often overshadowed by its Scandinavian neighbours yet remains rich and distinctive. Designer Torbjørn Anderssen outlines the country’s growing international outlook and a new generation of creatives shaping its future. We visit the Oslo studio of the late Peter Opsvik, where his son Tor continues to champion his father’s influential philosophy on how we sit. Norwegian manufacturer Hydro also features, having developed a premium recycled aluminium used by designers such as Lars Beller Fjetland, whose Bello! bench balances domestic refinement with public durability. While Norwegian design tends toward Scandi minimalism, projects like Podimo’s colourful Oslo office by Omhu Projects reveal a vibrant side. The issue also looks abroad to Italian design legend Tobia Scarpa and to Max Lamb’s work with Desa Potato Head in Bali, where he transforms the hotel’s waste stream into crafted objects rooted in pragmatism and respect
