An essential date on the architect and designer’s calendar, 100% Design has established itself as a springboard for emerging talent. Indeed, it is where some of the UK’s top designers have made a name for themselves, including the likes of Barber & Osgerby, Tom Dixon, and our oh-so-serious cover star, Benjamin Hubert.
True to its roots, this year’s show forgoes a theme in favour of an eclectic selection of never-before-seen design. Coupled with a new visual identity for the brand, this year’s 100% Design will reveal 100% Futures, a new creative initiative geared towards ‘Designing for London’. With content editor Max Fraser at its helm, a small jury will select 20 projects by emerging designers with less than five years in the industry.
Another new initiative named 100% Forward and curated by Barbara Chandler will showcase the work of eight emerging design talents across furniture, product, lighting and textile design, each supported by an established designer and 100% Design alumni.
With four months to go until the show kicks in, we give you a glimpse of two of the exhibitors.
“Unique stones for special projects” – such is the tagline of Greek company Mono Rocks (pictured above), whose collaboration with the world’s major quarries has enabled the company to worked with architects, technicians and artists in finding the most unique stone for the interior, exterior, bathroom and kitchen. New under Emerging Brands, Mono Rocks promises to be a tactile and visual delight.
Another new exhibitor, Swedish company Rubn has a mission to give customers the joy of experiencing harmony between material, design and functionality. “Design shall be crafted to last,” says founder Niclas Hoflin. “I try to achieve that through perfected simplicity; both in the lines that I draw and in my choice of materials.”
