Forming Function, a Swedish-based technical design company founded in 1983, pioneers innovative product development for modern workplaces
It first collaborated with Swedish design studio Form Us With Love on the Nomad Collection in 2024 to create dimmable plug-in lamps, power strips and portable power outlets, a system that is boldly designed, colourful, portable and tailored to today’s hybrid workers. For 2025, the collection has been thoughtfully reimagined with a taller lamp silhouette and two new colours – Violet Blue to bring calm and focus and Vermilion Red for a boost of energy. OnOffice sits down with Forming Function’s head of product, Linnéa Montano, to find out more about the latest collection.

OnOffice: What was the thinking behind the Nomad Collection? How does it respond to the way in which we work now?
Forming Function: The Nomad Collection emerged from identifying that technical accessories such as electricity and charging have long lacked sustainable and holistic systems that are also visually pleasing, a gap further emphasised by the rising demand for accessible, design-focused power solutions. Despite its crucial role, charging has often been viewed as a necessary inconvenience in interior design, something to be hidden or concealed. This challenge, combined with the lack of sustainable options and holistic systems, defined the foundation of the project.
Responding to today’s hybrid way of working, the Nomad Collection offers an ecosystem that reimagines how electricity, charging and lighting are integrated. The well thought-out shapes make it easy to integrate them into any space, whether it’s the office, lounge, home office or co-working desk. It transforms essential utilities into a seamless, visually compelling and holistic system for modern work environments.
By merging technology, design and sustainability, the collection sets a new standard for aesthetic, colourful and portable technical accessories. Handcrafted in Sweden from 100 per cent recycled aluminium, each casing is cast, coated and assembled by hand with meticulous precision, reflecting a sustainable and design-driven approach to the way that we work now.

OnOffice: Why did you want to have a bigger lamp as part of the second iteration?
Forming Function: We wanted to create a taller lamp as a natural next step for the collection, reflecting how our spaces and the ways we use them continue to evolve. Nomad Lamp 02 was designed to bring light that adapts, extending its reach across dining tables, workspaces and meeting areas while maintaining the same refined balance and warmth. With its taller silhouette and generous glow, it complements Nomad Lamp 01 and together they create a visual rhythm that adds contrast, creativity and harmony to any space.

OnOffice: Why did you want to work with Form Us With Love (FUWL) and what made you choose these particular colours?
Forming Function: FUWL’s belief that design can improve life feels naturally aligned with our own way of thinking. At Forming Function, we recognised the need for more considered, design-driven charging solutions and saw an opportunity to explore this together with FUWL.
Through our collaboration, three main challenges emerged: a lack of design innovation, a lack of holistic systems and the absence of sustainable options. So we wanted to create a sustainable, flexible and visually pleasing system of electricity, charging and lighting that blends seamlessly into today’s flexible work environments.
Colour is also an important part of the design and the collection, allowing the products to blend into the rest of an interior or stand out in a contrasting colour scheme. The new colours were carefully selected to bring more emotional depth to a space.

OnOffice: Tell us something that we might not know about the Nomad Collection?
Forming Function: The Nomad Blocks attach effortlessly to metal surfaces through a built-in magnetic base, making it easy to place and move them as needed. For non-magnetic surfaces, an adhesive mounting plate is included, offering the same flexibility and seamless integration wherever it’s used.
