This autumn, Tom Dixon is presenting MULTIPLEX at The Old Selfridges Hotel, ‘an immersive, multi-sensory department store for tomorrow’.

Held to coincide with London Design Festival, MULTIPLEX brings together design, technology, fashion, film and interiors to explore how the future of retail might look, sound, smell, taste and feel.
The event will be hosted in The Old Selfridges Hotel, a 20,000sq ft site attached to the iconic Selfridges department store in central London. Visitors will be able to explore departments dedicated to technology, home, fashion, beauty, jewellery, as well as a food hall.
For example, New Zealand design house Resident will present its ‘Openhouse’ exhibition. This will showcase new products including the Mesh Space light collection, as well as some of Resident’s most popular products such as the Flyover Coffee Table and the Geometric Family. These will all be available for purchase at the show.

Arabeschi di Latte will serve up an installation where the culinary world meets the design world in a special ‘pantry’ featuring everything from sugar cones to concrete. Print and design company Moo, meanwhile, will present its Paintgun Range, where visitors will be able to load paintguns and blast the Moo office, to be in with a chance of winning limited edition Moo products, exclusive to MULTIPLEX. Other exhibitors range from Caesarstone to Sony.
“The high streets are fighting a losing battle against the shift to online shopping, while eye-watering rents for prime locations squeeze traditional stores even further,” said Tom Dixon. “It is time to radically rethink how these spaces can become relevant again in a digitally-defined future.

“The Multiplex is a prototype shop for the future, a multiple stage for new ideas. Just as in the modern world, the artificial distinctions between designers, artists, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, communicators, entertainers and customers blur, merge and get redefined.
“The space becomes a resource for working, playing and entertaining, for inspiration and for business, a platform for superior broadcasting of brands and ideas and a temporary central London entertainment space for new commerce.”
The event will act as a magnet for Londoners and the creatives who flock to the capital across this month.
