Camira to present Common Threads at next week's CDW

Words by

UK textiles brand Camira and ege carpets will present Common Threads during Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW), a curated event celebrating yarn - the raw material at the heart of both companies. Taking place in Camira's newly refurbished showroom designed by Angela Gidden MBE, the space will take visitors through the process of how textiles come to life, from raw yarn through design inspiration to manufacture, with an end product designed, "with nature at its heart."

The showroom will feature an installation of thread art by textile designer Debbie Smyth, whose work blurs the boundary between fine art and textiles using thread and pins to create artworks.

She will be running live demonstrations each day at 11am and 2.30pm, and each session will have its own theme, such as The Craft of Design, The Art of Making, The Heart of Nature and The Graft of Contract.

Smyth says that she enjoys, "taking thread out of its comfort zone," and presenting it on a monumental scale to create, "an eye-catching and in some cases jaw dropping effect".

Camira's new worsted wool Landscape Collection; its bast-fibre fabric Main Line Flax; and its Velvetesse Collection will be on display.

Camira would like to invite CDW visitors to view Smyth's feature installation and enjoy a complimentary "fruit of the loom" smoothie.

Clerkenwell Design Week 2015 takes place from 19-21 May.
