Black Architecture has won planning permission to turn a grade two-listed building in Westminister into offices for the Institution of Civil Engineers(ICE). The building is located on Storey’s Gate, close to Parliament Square. Originally completed back in 1882 the building was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott’s practice. The design features a number of sustainable and environmental measures including passive chilled beam cooling, high performance glazing and a bio-diverse roof. With its location close to the existing ICE headquarters at One Great George Street the building will share conditioning equipment, with cooling and heating exported via service ducts installed beneath the road. Construction work is due to commence in January 2011 with completion expected by the end of October.
