100% Design preview

Words by

Back for its 21st year but in the new location of London’s Olympia, 100% Design continues to be a staple part of the London Design Festival.

The design trade event will be split into five key sections: Workplace, Interiors, Design & Build, Kitchens & Bathrooms and Emerging Brands; plus, within the Interiors section are the International Pavilions and two new areas, Luxury and Modern British.

Here onoffice previews a cross-section of new products and highlights some of the special installations and events to catch at the show

Oasiq Product 2014 1Design Guild Mark

The Furniture Makers’ Company has this year awarded its Design Guild Mark to 21 furniture pieces, to be shown at 100% Design. Recognising excellence in volume-produced British design, the award recipients include Case Furniture’s reissue of Robin Day’s 675 chair; CoCo by Mark Gabbertas for Oasiq (right); PearsonLloyd’s Edge table range for Modus; Lisa Sandall’s Svelto stool for Ercol; and two pieces by Magnus Long for The Conran Shop.

Chamfer 1 HRIsomi

Paul Crofts has designed Concrete, Isomi’s first range of modular furniture made from its namesake material, which will preview at 100% Design. There are three desk designs, named Chamfer, Lintel and Volume, all of which take cues from concrete’s application in architecture, with deliberately minimal forms that celebrate the material’s raw aesthetic. They are complemented by sign-in platforms in sheet metal or wire mesh.

Original BTC Chester floor light satin copper Portrait copyOriginal BTC

Lighting company Original BTC is launching a plethora of new pieces, including the Chester range. Made in satin-finish copper with black braided cable, Chester comes as a desk, wall or standing lamp (the latter with two heads). The British brand is also exhibiting its new Hatton collection, a multi-faceted, origami-like design made in bone china, billed as its most technically challenging range to date.

SE COLLECTION III SALONE15 OLYMPIA VANITY

Sé

Sé will be presenting several pieces including a new floor lamp by Slovenian designer Nika Zupanc (whose Sé exhibition in Milan is pictured) plus updated designs from Damien Langlois-Meurinne and Jaime Hayon. It will be the first time that these three very different collections will have been shown together. Sé will also have a presence at Sketch in Mayfair, where on the evening of Wednesday 23rd September company founder Pavlo Schtakleff will host a talk with Zupanc and gallery owner Rossana Orlandi.

PlayWork 04

Nowy Styl

Workplace furniture brand Nowy Styl will launch its new desk and storage system, Play&Work. The range is designed for open-plan, agile workspaces, with a stripped-back desk design featuring simple, unobtrusive U-shaped legs and flexible partitions. Complementary products include a modular bench and storage unit for small breakout areas between workstations, and desk dividers with integrated storage and shelving.

Denim Twill 1Formica

Laminate surfaces specialist Formica Group will be unveiling a whopping 113 new finishes at the show. You’ll also be able to spot its products in the Half-Three Cafe, where Studio Design has specified the materials; and in the Mattergarden juice bar (see overleaf), where the DecoMetal range is used. Back on the stand there will also be a ‘selfie pod’, for when visitors need a break from business chat.

100 Design Workplace Thomas Montgomery PRO5Thomas Montgomery

Designed by Irish design studio Perch, the Float chair from fellow Irish brand Thomas Montgomery takes a creative approach to the design of workplace seating. The unusual modular design is intended to “improve dynamic short-term workflow”, with a low seat surrounded by elbow-height platforms for use as working surfaces. The product is designed to be used in multiples, arranged together and tessellated in various ways, so its surfaces can be combined for a small group
meeting or brainstorming session.

Boss MarnieBoss Design

Boss will launch Marnie a new upholstered lounge chair, and a standalone media wall. The chair comes in high- and low-backed versions, with a softly angular form and understated look, intended for breakout and reception areas. The new media wall is designed to break up large, open-plan spaces and incorporates seating and technology for team meetings and collaboration.

CirqueCollection 01Laurameroni

Italian brand Laurameroni will show its avant-garde Cirque storage (pictured), a series of polygonal units, available clad in a range of finishes including matt RAL colours, wood veneer, metal and a sparkly crystal lacquer. Laurameroni’s specialism is in surface design – its furniture, doors and wall panels use rich materials such as marble, glass and rosewood – and it will also be showing some new acoustic panels at the show.
