onoffice puts on LFA talk on Gen Y & office design

Words by

Onoffice is taking part in the official London Festival of Architecture (LFA) with a talk entitled Y Design: The Generation Gap in Office Design.

Our talk covers how design can satisfy the needs of those of different generations within the world of work. The City Property Association recently announced that 50% of their workforce is made up of those from Generation Y or younger. This has impacted the work environment in various ways.

Firstly, as staff are now conducting business on the way to work, in cafes and at home, office space is radically changing to keep up. These spaces are now more frequently used to meet and brainstorm, to collaborate and to work flexibly. However, many people still crave privacy and we’re consequently seeing a renaissance of the cellular environment as a possible challenge to open plan that has come to dominate modern offices. Also, as tech companies grow, other more traditional companies are having to compete for the same people and this is affecting how we design workplaces that serve all ages.

We’ve lined up an impressive array of speakers to discuss these issues. These include Juliette Morgan, Head of Property, Tech City UK; Ben Adams, Founding Director, Ben Adams Architects; David Lewis, Partner, NBBJ and Nick Pell, Interior Design Director, Aukett Swanke.

There will be over 200 events taking place in the capital as part of LFA throughout the month of June, responding to the theme of 2015’ s Festival, which is ‘Work In Progress’.

'Y Design:The Generation Gap in Office Design' takes place at the Wilkhahn showroom, 45 Great Sutton Street, EC1V 0DE on Thursday 4th June at 6:30pm. Sponsored by Heineken.
