This year's festival runs from 13-21 September, and, since London still reigns as the design capital of the world, the city will not disappoint. From Hadid's swooshy aluminium installation at the V&A to the discovery of emerging brands at 100% Design, the festival will offer the chance to meet, talk and engage as well as ogle some amazing design feats

Giles Miller doesn't have to travel far from his Spitalfields-based studio to his installation for LDF, a 3m-high sculpture outside Shoreditch High Street station. Collaborating with Global Colour Research, the 10 Year of Colour piece will display a surface of hues and colours manipulated in the studio's typically inventive fashion. "We have worked with light and reflection, and explored colour trends and transitional tone," said the studio in a statement to onoffice, describing the work as a "visual feast".

AND Film Festival

The AND film festival will host a free programme of films linked to architecture and design, with screenings around Clerkenwell. The programme includes Unfinished Spaces, a documentary about Castro-commissioned architecture in Havana (at Bene); Works, a film about Belgian furniture designer Maarten Van Severen and the trailer of REM, Tomas Koolhaas' documentary on his father Rem Koolhaas (at Viaduct).

FLOS elevates lighting to a fine art

Swedish photographer Carl Kleiner has collaborated with Flos to depict the Italian brand's architectural lighting products in a series of highly stylised and abstract photographs. The compositions show sharp geometric grids of coloured paper, sandpaper, marble, wood and brass, each with a Flos light as the centrepiece. Atrium will display the collection at its new Old Street showroom from 15 to 19 September.

Moroso panel


Moroso will be hosting a panel discussion with Patrizia Moroso, Ron Arad, Ross Lovegrove, Doshi Levien, Raw Edges, Tord Boontje, Benjamin Hubert and Martino Gamper at its Clerkenwell Showroom on 16 September. They will share their experiences as designers in the context of London and the company.

It will also exhibit specially commissioned photographs of some its most celebrated designers, taken at various locations around London with the pieces they've designed for the company.

The Italian Project

A series of talks, running from 12 to 19 September at various venues, will explore key themes in the context of the relationship of the manufacturer and architectural project. Architects from some of the best known UK practices, including Zaha Hadid Architects, Gensler and SOM, will share their insights into the development and challenges of architectural projects.

This year's 'Designers in Residence' at the Design Museum are disrupting established ways of thinking to design issues that affect everyday life. James Christian has designed housing; Torsten Sherwood has created a construction module for children's dens; Ilona Gaynor's work draw parallels between courtrooms and live TV ; and Patrick Stevenson-Keating chose to disrupt the world of finance with new systems that could alter our daily with everything from ATMs to coins.

Elliott Erwitt shoots industry's top names


Artemide's Copernico light

Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel and Ross Lovegrove submitted their roles as 'creator' to sit for renowned photographer Elliott Erwitt alongside lighting products they designed for Artemide. The photographs and designs will be shown at A Tribute to Light, an exhibition at the Italian Consulate on Farringdon Street.
