Barber & Osgerby's giant reflectors for LDF

  • Location: V&A, London, UK
  • Duration: 13-21 September

Barber & Osgerby will create a ceiling of giant spinning reflectors within the V&A for London Design Festival 2014.

Suspended in the Raphael Gallery, the two 10x15m mirrored silver forms will slowly rotate in different directions, changing the viewer's perception of the space and artworks.

Speaking at the London Design Festival launch this morning, Edward Barber said: "By using reflection, we can transform the room. It's less about shape and more about space. The Natural History Museum has dinosaurs and the Science Museum has rockets. We wanted to give the V&A something gigantic."

The kinetic sculpture is titled Double Space for BMW - Precision & Poetry in Motion, and aims to epitomise the car brand's focus on precision and movement.

Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice president BMW group design, said, "it's not going to be easy to build, but it's going to be extraordinary."

London Design Festival 2014 takes place from 13 – 21 September 2014.
