Onoffice editor James McLachlan will chair a panel discussion between Lady Frances Sorrell of the Sorrell Foundation, Ab Rogers, designer and head of interior design at the RCA, Richard Green, CEO of DATA (the Design and Technology Association) and John Miller of furniture brand MARK during Clerkenwell Design Week, called The Future of Design in Education.

Since education secretary Michael Gove threatened the exclusion of design and art from the national curriculum (a plan which has since been scrapped), the importance of creative subjects has been a hot topic across the industry. Lack of funding and space in schools means workshops are becoming a thing of the past in favour of CAD labs, but what does that mean for our next generation of designers? Our esteemed panel members will have plenty to say on the subject. The discussion will take place at 11am on Thursday 23 May in the Farmiloe Building.

The debate accompanies Making Designers, an exhibition onoffice has co-curated with MARK that will reveal the school work of well-known design stars such as Jay Osgerby, Michael Marriott, Simon Pengelly, Linda Morey-Smith, Tom Lloyd, Matthew Hilton, Ab Rogers, Gala Wright, Anna Hart, Mark Gabbertas and Terence Woodgate. Taking place at the SCIN Gallery, it aims to inspire fledgling designers as well as exploring the links between our exhibitors' current work and their career beginnings.

Making Designers takes place from 21-23 May at 1st Floor, SCIN Gallery, Morelands, 27 Old Street, London, EC1V 9HL.

The Future of Design in Education debate will take place at 11am on Thursday 23 May in The Farmiloe Building, 34 St John Street, London EC1M 4AY.
