Michael Anastassiades, known for his lighting products, has created his first piece of furniture. He has designed a sofa for SCP as part of its Sofa in Sight collection, which celebrates the renowned design retailers’ 30th anniversary.
The Cypriot-born designer’s two-seat Rochester sofa is enclosed by a tall back and sides, offering greater privacy and making it ideal for workplace break-out areas and other public areas. The boxy design comprises a wooden frame and is upholstered in Kvadrat textiles. The sofa is accompanied by a matching ottoman.
Both the sofa and the Ottoman are minimally raised up from their bases, creating a lightness as if they might be hovering above. The design marks a departure from Anastassiades’ sculptural, minimalist lighting products.
Konstantin Grcic, Terence Woodgate, Faudet Harrison, Lucy Kurrein and Matthew Hilton also designed sofas for the project. Read more
