Tom Dixon's Milan 'Cinema'

Words by
Category: Design

The last time Tom Dixon hosted his own show in Milan, he filled the spectacular Museum of Science and Technology with an impressive roster of design talent. It only lasted two years, but was certainly missed in 2014. Now, there's new a show, Cinema, which will take over a 400sq m abandoned theatre with a series of installations.

Part of Designjunction's new San Babila Design Quarter, it will feature a number of new products from Dixon, which will featured as part of a series of installations and light shows.

Melt (above), an amorphic light designed in collaboration with Swedish studio Front, forms a distorted globe that's translucent when it's turned on and mirror-like when it's off.

The Lens spherical pendant lamp (above) comprises a series of prismatic triangles that reference the curved Fresnel lenses used in lighthouses to emit beams over long distances. The glass refracts the light, breaking it up into a multitude of rays and creating a "disco glamour", according to Dixon.

SM13. Wingback Chair

The new seating range features a chair, dining chair, ottoman and sofa derived from the 17th century wingback chair and its smaller counterpart the 18th century balloon back. Upholstered in Kvadrat fabrics, the chairs are available with oak or copper legs.
