The latest stools launched by the likes of Haworth, +Halle, James Burleigh reflect the wider shift towards flexible workplaces and soft-seating options.

Haworth

Reliably proficient design duo busk+hertzog has renewed its working relationship with fellow Danes +Halle to produce a brace of new seating products. Sally (pictured above) is a compact and easily transportable stool with striking legs attached to the outside, finished in solid soaped or black stained oak. The piece is upholstered and features a subtle stitching detail.

Openest 14031 rt

 As part of the Spanish designer's high-profile collaboration with Haworth, Patricia Urquiola created the Chick pouf, included in the Openest collection. It has a moveable wraparound back support that slides up to create an armchair.

 

Aril by Richard Hutten for Palau

Aril is a dinky upholstered seat created by Dutch designer Richard Hutten for easy movement and use in compact spaces. Available in a range of fabrics and leathers, the piece was launched at Orgatec by Amsterdam-based brand, Palau.

 

Shug by James Burleigh

James Burleigh's recently introduced Shug, a substantial stool of modest proportions, has been cleverly designed with three-point suspension for stability. It offers a sturdy solution to the problem of mobile seating in collaborative spaces and is available in a wide range of high performance seating fabrics and with solid hardwood legs.

 

Octave stool by HB Group

Multiples of the eight-sided Octave stool by HB Group can be tessellated in a honeycomb pattern. This can incorporate the matching Octave table, which has a concrete top. The stool can be fully upholstered or specified with a powder-coated steel frame and inset seat pad. The upholstery can be stitched with a dart or a star pattern.
