Designed by Martin Lauritsen, Vala by Bolia is a small, compact desk merging practicality and elegance for the home office.
Danish design company Bolia has become renowned for its sleek aesthetic and design-led craftsmanship. In a new addition to its Work From Home collection, the brand has revealed a desk conceived by local designer Martin Lauritsen, which is an ideal solution for compact home offices where space has to be utilised efficiently.
Wall-mounted using a concealed suspension system, Vala is a compact design that offers superior functionality with its internal storage drawer and hidden cable management system. Underneath the desk, three cable outlets allow you to house devices neatly while the drawer is designed to store a laptop and notebook. In homes where space is limited, this compact creation could be easily added to a bedroom or living area without presenting much intrusion.
In two oiled oak finishes, the desk pays homage to the elegant functionality of the region’s design ethos. Lauritsen’s approach is centred around quality, sustainability, and functionality with it following a simple rule that he applies to all his work: that a quality product should create value and joy in everyday life. “Good design is like good music,” he comments. “Both can create positive moods and emotions through their melodies, rhythm, shape, colour, and material. I find the emotional qualities that aesthetics can create to be very interesting, and this is the driving force in my design process, just as much as creating superior functional solutions.”
With the wider collection including the Visti Chair by Studio Nooi, the Reflection table lamp by Asger Risborg Jakobsen, the Case storage system by Oooja, the Friedman bookcase by Adam Friedman and the Graceful Table by Michael H. Nielsen, it allows users to create a superior office setting at home with ease. Ensuring there is no compromise on aesthetic while maintaining efficient functionality, each creation is testament to Bolia’s design sensibility which radiates through the collaborations they take part in.
So, if the hybrid workplace model means you work from home some of the time and the dining table isn’t allowing you to experience full productivity, opt for a compact, seamless set-up such as this. In creating a designated area to work from, albeit modest in size, it allows you to start and finish each day with a clearer mindset, without encroaching into other areas of the home which should be focused on comfort and relaxation. The Vala desk starts from €1107.
