Fletcher Priest has received planning permission for #6 First Street, a major new office and retail building in Manchester. It forms part of property company Patrizia’s new Tony Wilson Square development, which also includes buildings by Mecanoo and SimpsonHaugh, and is named after the Factory Records founder who contributed much to the city’s culture.

Fletcher Priest’s design for the 22,300sq m building represents a new kind of workplace for Manchester, according to the practice. Each tenant will be given the opportunity to extend its office into the double-height winter gardens, partially outdoor spaces situated on the corners of the structure with green walls, planting, and extensive glazing.

Three floors of workspace will have minimal structural columns, to allow flexibility in fit out, while the ground floor will house retail units including cafes and a bike shop. It is due to complete in August 2017.
