FaulknerBrowns‘ design for Rochdale Council’s new HQ has taken the ‘Best of the Best’ gong at the British Council of Office‘s (BCO) annual awards.
Number One Riverside represents the first phase of regeneration in the borough of Rochdale, where the local council is looking to increase engagement and interaction with the community.
“The design focuses on the relationship between the public and the council, so the employees are always reminded of the people they’re working for, and the public can see the people working on their behalf,” FaulknerBrowns’ partner Steve McIntyre told onoffice. “It’s very direct and transparent. Still, being a civic building, it had to stay simple, not contrived or corporate.”
The £42.5m office brings together 1,700 people from 33 different offices, but provides only 7.5 desks per person to create a new agile working culture.
