It has been said that inspiration comes from the most unlikely of places and this certainly rings true in the Ahrend’s latest offering – a chair based on 100 year old wickerwork beach chairs. Designed by Marijn van der Poll, Kaigan features a tubular steel frame, making it somewhat sturdier than the old wicker contraptions, and is fully upholstered. Whereas the original was made to protect from sunburn and wind the update aims to block out noise. Ahrend Kaigan will be officially unveiled at the Dutch Design Week (23 to 31 October) later this month.
