Alex Hammond is a London-based designer who uses craftsmen and suppliers within walking distance of his studio. Hammond's Tube table needed five different skilled craftsmen to create a piece of designer furniture, made with steel, glass, powder-coating, laser-cut acrylic and photography. Harry Beck's iconic 1920s tube map is stripped of all colour and type to leave an abstract but instantly recognisable graphic. Sandwiched between two sheets of toughened glass, the cut-out provides an intricate but robust coffee table top.
